Day 2. It's Sunday. I woke up early to the sound of rain hitting my corrugated tin roof.  It felt like camping days. Most homes have these types of rooves. It has been raining heavy since yesterday afternoon. What can I say it is the rainy season. Today is voting day to elect either a new president or re-elect the old one. No word yet who won. Raphael Correa is the current president here in Ecuador. I am not able to vote as I don't have residency yet. They have some funny ways here around voting. From 12 noon on Friday until tomorrow morning the stores and bars could not sell alcohol.  If anyone showed up at the polling station with the smell of alcohol on their breath they would be arrested and fined. My husband went to the polling station after lunch only to discover that they had moved the polling station and he had to pay 25 cents to get the address. What a scam. There are a lot of very poor people living here and sometimes they might only make a dollar a day so 25 cents is hard to come by. Welcome to Ecuador.
So my project today was an easy one as I am fairly new to bead work. I have done some stringing in the past but only simple necklaces and bracelets. I chose one for beginners from www.beadingdaily.com called Diamond Chain Bracelet. The pattern is clear and concise. I really liked the look of it. I was a bit nervous about using my good crystal beads so I opted to use 4m.m.plastic bicones in turquoise, bought them from Artisano here in Guayaquil, and multicoloured and gold seed beads. The seed beads came from the Dollarama in Kingston. Good practise material. I chose a closure which I purchased from Arbolito, here in Guayaquil, because I wasn't sure about the instructions on the tutorial. The bracelet came out a little too big for me because I got carried away and didn't keep track of my bead count. Next time I'll count out the beads first. I'm going to make a red and gold one for me when I get back to Canada. Unfortunately I was not able to get a good picture of this bracelet because I am not up to date on camera use. I have a digital but really don't know how to change settings and so forth. You will have to trust me when I tell you it looks good even to my beginner eyes. Yesterday after I finished my 1st. day project, beaded crocheted bracelet, I got a little bored and went on to make 5 more. It didn't take very long so I got the idea of making at lest 50 so I can give them as going away gifts to the ladies at my Church here. These sisters opened their hearts to me and have supported me even though I am not fluent in Spanish. I'll be very sad to leave them. So now I am on the clock to finish the bracelets before Saturday. Phew. This is in addition to my one a day projects. So hopefully it will rain for a few more days to keep the heat down and then I can comfortably craft away to my hearts content. Well it's 8p.m. now so I had better clean up my craft table and get it ready for the morning. Good night all.
Cheers, Christine.
P.S. Thanks Linda for the blog help.
